First Snow October 2022 8" x 6.5" Media:Watercolor paper (black and white), Card stock, Matte Board, Tempera paint, Gouache paint, Black micron pen, Stabilo liner pens, Colored pencil, Graphite pencil, Gold India Ink, Alcohol Marker, Holographic Duct Tape, Acrylic sealer (gloss finish) I started with cutting each layer of the foreground, middle ground, and background. A coral paper was placed behind black for the trees and border and the snow and foreground objects are on white watercolor paper. I chose to have a black border almost like a wide movie shot as if the viewer is in a cinematic moment in time. Then I mapped out the main objects, namely some trees, the footprints, and the human silhouettes. I was inspired by artists that used vibrant colors with saturated cool-toned shadows and so I chose a palette of oranges, pinks, and purple-blues. I mixed a bronze-gold tone with tempera and applied that mostly to the trees in the background to give them form. Then I began laying in the blue shadows and neon coral mark making for blocks of color. After that I began layering washes of purple-blue and gold ink along with black pen for details. The holographic tape was a finishing touch to create emphasis around the figures in the distance.
