Untitled April 26, 2022 8" X 12" Matte board, pumice, chalk pastel
This is an untitled chalk pastel landscape of a local forest. Chalk was drawn onto an under painting laying out the basic areas of color. Only the leaves at the top of the piece are rendered and the middle and foreground are incomplete. To create the appearance of leaves I used pastels ranging from white to very dark green and black on top of a light blue background to show the depth of the leaves as well as the sky and sunlight shining through the gaps. The size and direction of the marks indicating the leaves also shows how the leaves and branches wove together into a thick canopy.
