Memories From Outer Space October 19, 2022 Photography and digital illustration (Photoshop, GoDaddy Studio, Procreate)
This is an illustration using a photograph of myself through the display screen of an old camera to convey the idea of missing someone's presence and dwelling on old memories. I have a person that I have not seen in years that recently sent me both the camera and the blue holographic jacket I am wearing in the photo, items from the past. This brought back a flood of memories and inspired this piece. I want to show the feeling someone has before they accept their new circumstances concerning their relationship with another person. I took the photo of the old camera monitor while I was posing in front of the camera to show that the moment in the piece connects to the past. Then I used white and blue sketches to create a ghost-like character comforting the subject. This was to convey that the person being missed could not truly be there and only existed in the subject's memory. The title "Memories From Outer Space" frame the camera monitor for the viewer to understand that the subject is mentally going back to another faraway place or time. Whatever separates yourself from someone you were once close to and relied on is hard to recover from and even when you feel you have gotten better, it is natural for far away memories from outer space to return.
